Brief Introduction

   The School of Computer and Electronic Information, initiated in April of 1997, was merged of the independent computer science department and the major of electronic engineering of the physics department. In March, 1999, the Computer Centre of GXU was divided into the school. Up to now, the school has 6 departments of computer science, electronic and information engineering, electronic business, communication engineering, network engineering and information security as well as GXU computer centre and central lab of the school. In addition, 7 undergraduate majors have been set, they are computer science and technology, electronic and information engineering, communication engineering, electronic business, network engineering, information security and digital media technology. The education of master and doctoral degrees have been flourished in the school where the 6 academic master degree sites of computer application technology, computer software and theory, computer system structure, software engineering, information security and electronic business, information processing and communication network system, 2 fulltime master degree sites of computer technology and software engineering, 3 co-constructed doctoral degree sites of biological informatics, electrical equipment and intelligence information technology have come into being. The school, with the building for research and teaching covering 7,000㎡, has been equipped with experimental and teaching instruments and facilities valued over¥20 million.

Li Taoshen

Professor Li, born in 1957, is the tutor of doctoral and master candidates. He is also the advanced member of China Computer Federation and Chinese Institute of Electronics.

Zhong cheng

Biography

Professor Zhong, born in 1964, is the doctor of engineering as well as the tutor of doctoral candidates and academic master candidates of the majors of computer system architecture, computer software and theory, applied computer technology and those of software engineering major. In addition, he assumes the post of tutor of the doctoral candidates of computer major in South China University of Technology. His attention is focusing on the teaching and research of computer science and technology and information security.

Qin Tuanfa

Biography

Professor Qin, born in 1966, July, is the tutor of master candidate. From 1994, September to 1997, June, he continued his doctoral education of Acoustics in School of Electronic Science and Engineering of Nanjing University and gained Doctor Degree of Science. From 2011, May to 2001 December, he was, under the guidance of Lajos Hanzo, the worldly-renown expert of telecom of Department of Electronics and Computer Science, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, engaged in the postdoctoral research of wireless broadband CDMA system access.

Su Yidan

Biography

Cultivation and Management

       Enrolled into the college, the doctoral candidate will finish his personal cultivation plan under the guidance of his supervisor. In order to pass the interim test launched by the university and go on to thesis writing, the doctoral candidates will have to finish all his courses, pass all the exams, and get credits from certain scientific research and teaching practices, academic activities, and the report on the topic of their degree thesis. They can apply for the doctor’s degree only after they have come out with satisfactory scientific research achievements. Their thesis will be submitted to the specialists for assessments in a random way by the college or university, and only those candidates whose thesis get the approval from the specialists can participate in the phase of thesis defense. Those who pass the thesis defense can get the diploma, of whom those who are qualified will be awarded the doctoral degree.

According to the requirements of the majors and the interests of the postgraduates who have had a basic knowledge of the supervisors of various majors, the college will accredit supervisors to the students by the way of “two-way selection”. Under the guidance of their supervisors, the students will make their own individual cultivation plan.

The cultivation of the postgraduates is divided into two phases, the first one is to take courses, and the second one is to finish writing the thesis.

As for the full time academic postgraduates, they are required to take all the degree programs (17 credits) and all the optional programs (14 credits), pass all the exams, and participate in certain teaching and social practices (two credits) and seminars ( one credit), and finish the topic selecting report (one credit). Only after that can they pass the interim test launched by the university and go to thesis study. As for the full time vocational engineering postgraduates, they must get 11 credits in the degree programs, eight credits in relative practices, eight credits in vocational programs, and participate in seminars ( one credit), finish the literature reading and general report ( one credit), the topic selecting report and thesis proposal (one credit). Only after that can they pass the interim test launched by the university and go to thesis study. In the second phase, under the all-round guidance of their supervisors, the postgraduates will finish writing their theses after relative surveys. The full time academic postgraduates can apply for the master’s degree only after they have come with certain scientific research achievements (one credit), and their theses will be submitted to two specialists in random by the college. Only those postgraduates whose theses get the approval from the specialists can participate in thesis defense. Those who pass� the thesis defense can get the diploma, of whom those who are qualified will be awarded the degree of Master of Engineering.

In the first phase, the on-the-job vocational engineering postgraduates must get 18 credits in the degree programs, 10 credits in optional programs, participate in engineering practices (one credit) and seminars (one credit), and finish the general report and topic selecting report (one credit), only after which can they pass the interim test launched by the university and go to thesis study. The on-the-job vocational engineering postgraduates can apply for the degree only after the have come put with certain scientific research achievements (one credit), and their theses will be submitted to two specialists in random by the college. Research

 

       In the past five years, with the fundamental research on information technology application and the development of the applied technology as the principal line, the college highlights the research and development of the fields like the paiallel distributed computation, internet information security, distributed data base, CAD, mobile multimedia communication, artificial intelligence and image processing. Of all its achievements, eight get the provincial appraisal. Besides, it undertakes one subtopic from the “National 973 Project”, two projects from the “National 863 Project”, more than 20 projects from the Natural Sciences Foundation of China and more than 40 other projects. To date, it has got one first prize, three second prizes and five third prizes in the Guangxi Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, and over 300 theses have been cited by SCI, SSCI and AHCI.

 

Activities

 

The college highlights the summer practice and the social practice, through which it helps the students to combine the theories with practice, stimulates the students’ study enthusiasm, cultivate their overall ability, and improve their competence. In the past few years, the college has signed agreements with 21 enterprises, in which nearly 700 students take their summer practice every year.

 

       The college has six students’ associations, namely the Association of Computer Network, Electronics Association, E-business Association, Linux Association, Mathematical Modeling Association and Employment Association. Taking advantage of the associations, the college cultivates the students through various practices and competitions.

Computation centre:  there are 17 teachers in the computer public fundamental course teaching department, of which 6 are associate professor and 11 are lecturer, and they are in charge of the course of Fundamentals of Computer for all non computer major students. in order to improve the students innovative ability , we will organize a computer application contest annually, and recommend the excellent contesters to take part in a variety of national level or provincial level contest, in which all the contester won good prizes.

 

8. school central laboratory: the experimental teaching centre of computer and information technology includes computer fundamental lab and IT professional lab, of which 11 are the computer fundamentals lab that shoulder whole university’s computer fundamentals and computer IT professional teaching, and 15 for computer IT major, including computer software comprehensive laboratory, e-commerce laboratory,  computer network laboratory, information security laboratory, microcomputer principler laboratory, digital circuit and computer principle laboratory, signal and system laboratory, high frequency electronic laboratory, communications theory laboratory, program-controlled optical fiber communication laboratory, mobile communication  laboratory, TV principle audio lab, embedded DSP laboratory, electronic measurement laboratory, students' innovation laboratory.
